School Of Solar Energy

Duane Said:

I have to heat two liters of water for a school prodject by using solar power?

We Answered:

Use a large heavy duty black plastic trash bag and put the 2 liters of water in it and loosely close the bag. Lay the bag out flat in the sun on the blacktop at school and you will find that it will heat the water quite hot. Do not seal the bag tightly because you do not want pressure to build up inside the bag.

A couple of thinks to keep in mind.... dark objects absorb solar radiation and heat up. Surface area is key to efficiency, spreading the water in a thin layer inside a large bag is better than completley filling a small bag with a smaller surface area.

edit:
This concept is used in a Solar Shower produce used for camping

Edith Said:

can i have a list of what solar energy does for us please!!!?

We Answered:

It's hard to tell if you mean solar energy in its natural form, or solar power as a technology. Solar energy usually refers to the natural form, though. Solar energy supplies almost all of the Earth's warmth; only a very small portion comes from within. Without the Sun, the Earth would soon radiate all of its heat into space, and become a frozen rock. The energy from the Sun is not distributed evenly across the Earth, and it is that imbalance that drives our weather systems. We use solar energy to dry the laundry that we hang out, to tan our skin (cautiously), and to grow plants, among a multitude of other activities done outside that would be impossible without the energy coming from the Sun.
