there are upcoming eclipses in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017...you get the idea. you will have to travel to see any of these. this seems to be a weird concept to ppl around here. i traveled to turkey in 2006 and thought it was all part of the fun.

the next eclipse right in new york is 1 may 2079. you could look this up just as easily as i just did.

New York City is having a bad run at the moment, with a gap of 12 years (2001 to 2013) between solar eclipses, an unusually long interval for a given location. The next 3 (all partial) eclipses are:
3rd November 2013. Small partial eclipse at sunrise.
23rd October 2014. Even smaller partial eclipse at sunset.
21st August 2017. Large partial eclipse with 77% of the Sun's diameter obscured at maximum. This will be a total eclipse along a line from Oregon to South Carolina.

Sorry. I have to disagree. The next full solar eclipse visibe for the east coast of the US is in 2017 and will cross So. Carolina. It will be a while before there is a solar eclipse that will cross New York State. If I come across a date, I will post it in an EDIT.

There is a very marginal case on October 23, 2014, when the edge of the Moon's disk will just touch the Sun's disk at sunset when seen from New York City. But aside from that, the next partial solar eclipse visible from New York will be August 21, 2017.

The next total solar eclipse visible from New York (state: around Buffalo) will be April 8, 2024.

The next total solar eclipse visible from New York City will be May 1, 2079, when the sun will rise out of the Atlantic while in total eclipse.

Hi Neighbor!

The solar eclipse of August 1st will be at its height at 6:21 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Unfortunately for us, the center of the eclipse will be high over Siberia at that time, so we will see absolutely none of the eclipse, not even the partial phases. Extreme northern Maine will technically be able to see a moment of it at sunrise, just as the eclipse is ending. In Newfoundland, the sun will rise 40% eclipsed.

The next total eclipse we'll be able to see from the Metropolitan area will not be until May 1, 2079.
