Future Solar Energy

Terrence Said:

Is harnessing solar energy the key to the future as far as our energy needs are concerned?

We Answered:

If we want to stop global warming. And keep our water supply we had better try something.

Samuel Said:

Do you expect solar energy could replace fossil energy in near future?

We Answered:

As the worlds leading energy source? Possibly. But it depends on what you mean by the near future. Solar cells are still relatively inefficient and expensive to install so fossil fuels are the most economical choice right now. Until prices of alternative forms of energy like solar fall bellow those of coal, oil, natural gas, etc, chances are good that fossil fuels will remain the most widely used form of energy.

For this to change, businesses and governments around the world will need start investing a lot more in technology that can produce improved/cheaper forms of alternative energy. Governments can also provide economic incentives/disincentives that encourage private investment in alternative energy and reduce our consumption of fossil fuels. Things like subsidies for clean energy companies, taxes on CO2 emissions, and/or caps on CO2 emissions. Those will help too.

To answer your question more directly though, I think that someday we will replace fossil fuels (if not we could be in a lot of trouble), and as far as alternatives go... solar energy seems pretty promising (considering how much of it we have.) So yeah, I think it's a definite possibility.

Marsha Said:

What does the future hold for Solar energy? *10 points*?

We Answered:

I am not so sure I think they might use solar energy all the time like they would take these tanks that would take the solar enrgy during day time and then at night they might use that energy has home lights and other stuff.
