Florida Solar Energy

Guy Said:

florida power outage left 4-5 million w/o power....this wouldnt happen with solar...why are we going backwards

We Answered:

solar couldnt give 4-5 million power..offshore wind farms are better but the treehuggers wont let them be built

Georgia Said:

Isn't it time we start drilling for oil in the continental shelf off of Florida?

We Answered:

I've been saying that forever. Alaska is especially abundant in oil.

Ethanol was also proved inefficient because it's driving food costs up the more we use it, so it's going to force people into choosing between filling their cars or feeding their families.

Solar and wind are nice indeed, if you're only running an Amish village. It will not supply a metropolitan area - period. They're woefully limited by location and weather patterns too.

But, we can "thank" the environmental extremists for our heavy reliance on other countries. They are what stands between drilling our own oil and building more nuclear sites. Apparently some of them think that rare patches of grass are more important than humans being able to afford to eat this month.

info on quality energy efficient prebuilt homes?

We Answered:

What you are looking for is called "green" (eco-friendly) building. One of the best sources for information on the movement can be found here:

Hope this helps!

Tina Said:

Will the government permit energy independent homes?

We Answered:

There are homes all across the country that are "off the grid ". I don't know of any state that specifically prohibits building an off the grid home. There are homes that use solar and/ or wind with a battery backup system, some also have a stand alone generator as a second backup, which is probably the best all around system, but obviously is more expensive initially, but if you want to do a strictly wind/ solar system without the backups than I'd say stay connected to the grid, just in case, and sell whatever excess power you generate back to the utility.

Jackie Said:

Which is more practical, wind power, or solar power?

We Answered:

There seems to be a lot of resistance to the look of the wind turbines, In CA we have a million roof initiative for solar panels. The state has set a target to get pv solar on 1 millions roofs by 2018. We are well on our way. A couple of the benefits to the program is it allows businesses and homes to become energyindependentt and allows communities to partially fund the programs to help with their local energy needs.
