Benefits. Free, clean, plentiful, and solar panels can be installed in areas where they have minimal impact (eg. rooftops). Solar energy can also be used to heat water, or focused to superheat water and operate turbines to produce electricity.

Disadvantages. Need the sun. In areas where the sun doesn't come out as much, solar energy is less beneficial. Solar energy needs to be stored to handle nighttime energy needs. Solar panels and cells are prohibitively expensive for each kw/hr generated - this is the biggest drawback.

Benefits - after installation it is free and readily available;
extends workday, improves health, reduces fire risk, not polluting, renewable and easily improved

1. Solar energy does not create pollution

2. We basically have solar as long as the sun exists, which is probably for another 5 years
