Solar panel for go kart?

Find out from the motor label its power consumption in watts. Assuming it is a DC motor, find out on what DC voltage it operate (V) and measure how much current it draws under full load (I). V (in volts) times I (in Ampers) is its power consumption in Watts. Assuming the motor works H hours a day, its energy consumption is V times I times H (numerical example V=12 Volt, I =3 Amperes, H=8 hours), the energy consumption is 12 times 3 times 8 = 288 Watts. This is the energy your panel need to supply. Assuming 6 hours of useful sun radiation, your panel size needs to be at least 288/6=48 Watt, taking into account the battery charger efficiency (assuming 85%) the size should be increased to 48 divided by 0.85 = 56 Watts. The battery voltage needs to be 12 Volts nominal, and its size would be 288 Watts divided by 12 and divided by 8 = 3 Ampere-hour. Use the actual motor rating and actual hours of operation to calculate your specific panel size and your specific battery size. Don't use car battery! Use a deep cycle battery!
