Solar Powered Charger

Carmen Said:

Suggestions for the best solar power fence charger...Please?

We Answered:

I have this one, the cheapest one from horse.com - item # BXW11. I have had it for about 13 years. I just bought a replacement battery for it this year because it seemed like it might be a little weaker (or it could be because my ground rod is not deep enough). This charger has worked great for all this time. I use it to subdivide my pasture, not as my main fence. It has enough shock to train all the horses I've had in it not to mess with it, and after that initial shock, they don't even try. The shock feels pretty much like a strong shock from your car door on a winter day. Since this is the cheapest one, and it's done so well for me, I'd think that pretty much any of the solar chargers would work fine.

My only problem has been the 11.3h pony I got last year who is small enough and hairy enough to go under the fence and not feel much of a shock, if any. Other than that, I've had at least 6 different horses in it over the years, with a single strand of 1/2" poly tape with no problems at all.

You might try the solar powered yard lights. Mine use two double A batteries each. I have four. I don"t know if there are yard lamps that use triple A.
Good luck
