Solar Laptop Power

Beatrice Said:

Solar power for electronics?

We Answered:

You need to find out what voltage and current (DC) your laptop battery charger requires and get an adaptor plug for it. Then get a solar array to match that volts and amps. the voltage can be a bit higher, and the current can be lower (it would just take longer to charge it).

The "little" stuff is also a problem, as they all have differing voltage and current requirements. You have to check on each one and get the correct array.

an alternate is to get one array and a DC-AC inverter to run off of that, which will supply 120 volts AC. Then you can plug all your adaptors into that. You probably will need a 12 volt rechargable battery in between as DC-AC inverters are fussy on their DC voltage. EG, a 12 volt one (most common) will work only within a limited range of voltages, perhaps 10v to 14 volts, and solar arrays have widely varying output, depending on the sun.

You realize this whole thing will save you perhaps 5 cents a day?
