Solar Battery Pack

Phyllis Said:

Battery Pack as Voltage Regulator?

We Answered:

You don't say what the panel's output voltage is or the motor input voltage is. Basically, what they want is to hook the panel to the motor and battery in parallel so that when the panel gets more power than the motor needs, it's used to charge the battery.

For instance, if the panel puts out 12 VDC and the RC motor is a 9.6V, you need a small 9.6V battery to limit the panel output to 9.6V.

Brent Said:

What solar panel equipment do I need to charge 2 18v battery packs?

We Answered:

The only panels I hav seen put out 12vdc. To charge 18v packs you need more than 18v going into them. 2 panels wired in series would probably work depending on the amperage of the battery pack and the amperage of the panels. When wired in series, the amps of the panels is the same as 1 panel but the voltage will double.

would it at all be possible to convert the cod Black ops RCXD car to use a rechargeable battery pack?

We Answered:

Solar would be possible, but very expensive and impractical (the cell would have to be quite large and you could only drive it outside on sunny days, not under any trees).
For the battery, yes, it is possible, but probably not worth the work. Figure out the voltage of the batteries it uses and find a rechargeable pack that matches the voltage exactly. Solder a plug pigtail to the positive and negative leads in the car and find a place to stash the pack.

An easier way would be standard-size rechargeable batteries, available at any major retail store.

Julie Said:

what do i need to charge my 96 volt dc battery pack from ev with my 1000 watt solar array?

We Answered:

Is this a commercial electric car? You will need the schematics. Check that you don't void the warrantee by this action.

But it's possible that all you need is a charge controller, if you can find one that is setup for a 96 volt battery pack, most are configured for 12, 24 or 48 volts. You may need a custom one, or design it yourself.

What is the voltage and current rating of the array?
