Solar Charger For light bulb ???

We Answered:

I used to live in the Oregon national forest, where there was no electricity available for several miles, I bought a power inverter for $40, and hooked it to my car battery and ran a 13 inch TV, VCR combination for 4 hours and still had enough charge in my car battery to start the car.
you can buy a 2 watt solar panel on E bay for about $25, that is made to charge VW batteries while they are being shipped to the US from Germany
or you can order from this link to harbor Freight,

Does anyone own (or know about) a Silva Solar Charger 1 ?

We Answered:

I assume you want the Silva to charge a GPS, since you're going on a long trip. In my experience, the Silva works ok, it is a little more likey to be damaged through normal wear and tear than I would like, but such is life.

If you are looking for something to charge other things (cell phone, MP3 player, camera, some GPS), I would check out the Solio. Because it is much more durable than the Silva products, I use it for mountain running when I am out for 10+ hours with my iPod. I can leave it open in the mesh pocket of my camelbak and have it bounce around all day and be fine.

However, it does NOT do AA/AAA batteries, only things that can be charged through a USB Port/Plug, so if your GPS isnt a Garmin Forerunner or a Garmin Edge, you don't really have that as an option.
