Duracell rechargeable battery pack with charger... red light still on after charged for 24 hours?!?

We Answered:

Usually when you buy new rechargable batteries they have to be conditioned before use.

This means a long first charge, so it could be that this is what the charger is doing.

If you are using the charger that came with the camera (does it plug directly into the camera?), this can be a problem. It is always best to give 1st charges with a conventional battery charger, preferably one that charges each battery individually and is 'intelligent' enough to cut the charge when done.

You don't mention the milliamp rating for the batteries. I suspect your camera charges at a very low rate and if the batteries themselves are a high capacity (2,500mA or above), this can take a long time.

I think it is probably safe enough to try the batteries now. Just make sure you run them flat before charging again.

It could also be that if the batteries are a very high capacity and your camera is not a recent one, then it may have trouble recognising the extra capacity of these batteries.

It's like a mobile handset that states it will work with SD cards up to 2Gb, so if you put a 4GB in , it will either not work at all, or would just recognise 2GB of the card's capacity.

Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit, can you just use the charger cord without the battery pack to play?

We Answered:

Yes, you can use the cord to hook the controller straight to the console, no battery necessary.

However if you have both the rechargable battery AND the cord hooked up, it'll charge the battery while you're playing.

Can you use a fast charger w/ a rating of 7.2v 1200 mAH to charge a battery pack w/ a rating of 7.2v 600 mAH?

We Answered:

Are you sure your charger output is rated in volts and maHours? I thought I had seen them rated only in voltage and current. I checked 2 of the small ones I had close by and their outputs are just rated in volts and ma.

The batteries themselves could be rated in maHours. That would be how long they can put out how much current before they're fully discharged. If my suspicion is right, and you used a charger that would try to pump too high a current in (that would mean it's trying to charge it faster than recommended), the battery might overheat.

If you double-check and find your big charger is 7.2v 1200 mA, then if you have 2 battery packs you could charge 2 at once (in parallel). Assumining they're equally discharged, the output current would divide about equally in 1/2 between the 2 packs.
