You want a grid tie solar power system being you already have the grid or you could not use the welders right now.

The idea is back feed the grid. You would want to balance out your power usage with solar. You do not have to be able to run every thing in your shop with solar. You run everything from the local utility and allow the solar no matter how large or small to offset the power usage. If you are not using much power the solar will supply all your needs and the extra will turn your meter backwards saving you a little money. Plus that makes anyone on the utility grid use solar power because you are feeding it into the system.
