Theodore Said:

Let's go to space, or how about robbing Peter to pay Paul?

We Answered:

Your question got way too political way too fast.

Look, if you're wondering about going into space, let me say this: There is no real "benefit" to going into space. At this point, it is strictly an exploration project. If space was commercialized and private companies able to reap the rewards of going to other planets for resources, then maybe it would move faster. As it is now, NASA is, for all practical purposes, a hole to throw money in. I admire NASA, but no one cares.

Answer to second part of question. You mention all the budget priorities and whatnot. If we spent $1 billion on basic medicine for the Third World, that would save more lives than an additional $16 billion in NASA funding. The return on investment in medicine, healthcare, and food is measured in the hundreds or thousands of human lives. Something that NASA cannot claim.
