the photcell would be ideal for guiding the bot to light, but not for producing power for the battery as it does not actually produce power, it just switches power when it sees light.

If you have rechargable battery in the bot, then I would say just charge it as usual. If you really need to use solar, then you will need to buy a proper solar cell, but even still using it to charge the battery will not be easy, modern rechargeable batteries need a good stable supply.

Not sure about what you mean by "waste heat." Presuming it means energy lost in the conversion from photo-to-electric.

1) (influx of solar energy) - (photo-voltaic energy output)
2) 560 - 125
3) 560 - 125 = 435 (MJ)
