High Efficiency Solar Cell

Tara Said:

problems with these two math word problems?

We Answered:

A polished Joule.

1Watt = 1 Joule/sec. The panel produces for 6 x 3600 = 21600 sec. At 60% efficiency the out put is 600W, so the total Joules produced is 21300 x 600 = 12,960,000

Watt's up?

One m² produces 1000 W @ 100% efficiency in full sunlight. At 60% efficiency it's 0.6 of that. Since it's only producing for 6 hours out of 24, it's AVERAGE wattage is 1/4 of the sunlight rate.

(1000 x 0.6)/4 = 150

Column Inches

You might be tempted to think "well, one wrap is 2 feet, so I will need 6 x 2 x 18 = 216 feet. Not so, because the wrapping produces a helix or coil around the cylindrical column. You must use the formula for the length of a helix. You should have been given this formula or it should be in your textbook:, but here's one I found:

L = length of coil (to be calculated)
D = diameter of coil ( = 2/? feet)
N = number of turns ( = 6)
P = pitch - the vertical distance between turns of the coil (= 10/6 = 1.67 feet)

L^2 = (pi*D*N)^2 + (P*N)^2

You can do the (easy) arithmetic, but I assure you the answer rounds to 281.2 feet!

I would like to transfer from a community college to a 4-year school?

We Answered:

Some colleges do look at high school records for transfer students, but that tends to happen when you only have a few college credits. With the number of credits you have, it's unlikely that colleges will ask for high school records. But if they do, it's fine. You obviously did well your last two years and that success has continued in college. If asked for your high school records, emphasize that you ended high school on a high note and that your hard work has continued.
