If the country had a decent Government they would have started on this 13 years ago when it was known we would have power problems 15 years on!
Now we can't afford it as the country is nigh on bankrupt and this sort of long term investment spending can't be done!
By the way wind turbines are only 15% efficient, they are a complete and utter waste of money and are only being built because the Government has applied surcharges to our energy bills to pay the wind farm owners huge subsidies so the Government has something visible that they can point to and say "we are doing everything we can" Are you as sick of that Brown saying as I am?

it's dreadful and makes me want to move abroad. The 4th richest economy in the world with the 17th lowest standard of living. What worries me even more is that the alternative to Gordon Brown won't be any better. The conservatives will serve up the same policies behind a 'tuff love' banner. We're all f*&ked basically for at least the next ten years. It feels like the mafia are running the country. We need a revolution of sorts.

As for greenhouse gases... I don't believe for one second that these taxes have got anything whatsoever to do with the enviroment. What we produce is just a 'blip' compared to the 1 million new cars that hit the road each month in China and India alone. China and the US will burn it up as quick as they can get their hands on it while we in the UK are being robbed by our own government. The last thing this government wants is for us to stop using fuel.

Most often this nonsense comes from comparing current temperatures to 1998 which was a peak due to a very strong El Nino. An El Nino cools the atmosphere and carries more heat into the deep ocean where it is not measured. It comes from people who try to look at just one number rather than seek a robust understanding of climate as scientists do. If we had measurements of the temperature in the deep ocean, we wouldn't be getting people babbling about cooling.

There was another hypothesis that was popular a couple of years ago: that a continued deep solar minimum would cause significant cooling over the next 20 or 30 years. Most solar scientists dismissed that and predicted that the sun would cycle right back up normally, as it seems to be doing. Most or all climate scientists dismissed the cooling predictions because we were in a deep minimum and global temperatures were right in line with the then current La Nina, and sure enough as soon as the La Nina subsided global temperatures shot right up to a record year, despite the El Nino not being as strong as in 1998. At least the scientists promoting thee solar activity predictions could respected as in the minority but forwarded provocative science. People posting "cooling" stuff here are just babbling.

First of all, it's not an illusion. It is a good source of energy.Obviously, it's not a stand-alone source, but it is a good technology. A certain slice of the population cry about subsidies to wind power, but look the other way while a fully mature fossil fuel industry gets billions in subsidies each year.

Give it up. Wind power is not going away!
