Solar Power Solar Cells

Jesse Said:

solar powered cells can power a rc helicopter???

We Answered:

It is not possible... the solar panels can not absorb enough energey to lift that much weight. However, you could probably attach one to have the solar panel recharge the rechargable battery on the rc helicopter, but I think thatll just break even from the amount of weight the panel and wires are for a small recharge on the battery... so overall its useless to have. Maybe nice looking to have on?

Oh yea, I know cause someone tried it and I was looking at him and laughing everytime he crashes and the connectors for electricity disconnected.

Gladys Said:

What is the best renewable resource, wind power, solar, hydrogen cells, nuclear, etc.?

We Answered:

I agree with Pfo that hydrogen fuel would be the best technology. Until we develop it to full efficiency I would say the following technologies are the best:

1. Wind Energy
2. Solar Energy
3. Ocean Energy (tidal and wave energy)

Jonathan Said:

In my engineering class, we have to boil water using only solar power (no solar cells). Any suggestions?

We Answered:

You can try a classic solar cooker design this is just a black box that has a foil interior shaped is a parabola with the water at the vertex. Try this site it has some good pictures and details! Do not forget to tag your sources! Also try to place the water in a vacuum as previously mentioned, not a perfect vacuum but even a slight one will help.

Has anyone out there in answers.yahoo land hooked up a laptiop to a bank of solar cells to power the laptop?

We Answered:

I have run accross another solution a solar powered backpack to keep your lap charged. http://www.voltaicsystems.com/

Rebecca Said:

i want to power something on solar power,if the solar cells generate enough amps does that mean?

We Answered:

depending on how much energy you need that will determine the size and number of panels you will need to power it. if you buy a solar panel from a hardware store the box will say the amount of energy it makes.

Glenn Said:

Can a 1.5v Solar Cell power a light bulb and how do I power it?

We Answered:

Most flashlight bulbs take 3 volts are perhaps 300 mA.

That solar cell puts out half the volts and probably a fraction of the required current. So NO.

Get two and put them in series, and you may be able to light a red LED.
