Sunpower Solar Panels

Jeanne Said:

How can I become a solar panel dealer for companies like Sunpower, First Solar, Trina Solar, Evergreen etc?

We Answered:

First you need to contact them and inquire about franchise and dealership opportunities in your area. It would also behoove you to ask them for the names of current dealers who you could talk to to ask about their experiences.

Julio Said:

SunPower Solar Panels?

We Answered:

There is no difference between them besides their rated output. One may physically fit on you roof better than another, or look better, although the physical difference between those sizes is minimal. Go with whichever installer you trust, and is preferably NABCEP certified, or working towards NABCEP certification. Get references. Don't believe just because someone is an electrician they know how to install solar electric, it's a whole different animal. Make sure they are trained in installing solar.

Carol Said:

Which solar panels (Sunpower, Sharp, or Kyocera) have produced the best results for you in residential home?

We Answered:

Kyocera. They are not the cheapest but have a good reliability record.

Hugh Said:

what is the diffenence in the way sunpower and first solar make solar panels? which is better?

We Answered:

Sunpower is a conventional crystalline silicon cell, except with contacts all on the back. These are the most efficient cells widely available commercially. However, Sunpower panels are generally more expensive per watt than other silicon panels.

First Solar is a Cadmium Telluride thin film, theoretically, a lower cost per watt. Per unit area, it's less efficient than any crystalline silicon panel. The general public cannot buy their product.

Neither of these companies is making very much money, and with current economic conditions, I would not be surprised to see losses for both. First Solar has the distinction of being low cost, and having an actual product - something that all the thin-film startups do not.

I don't find the price of either company's stock attractive at present, if that's what you're looking for.
