I haven't dealt with solar for a while but i don't think it would be practical for that type of use.
The a/c consumes a lot of energy and the irregular consumption wouldn't be good for the batteries which will store the electricity. Photovoltaic generation is more practical for lighting purposes since you can use energy efficient low voltage lighting which will be run on a regular basis to keep the batteries in good shape. Also depending on your geographic location, to be able to run an a/c unit will need a pretty large photovoltaic panel. I'm talking off the top of my head but from general description i dont think its practical

Actually I was thinking about covering someone's entire yard with solar panels (probably involves removing any trees or tall landscaping). I had been looking for a volunteer that wants to give up all of their room for my solar panels. I am glad I have heard from a volunteer. Now if we can find a few hundred million more we can have that global warming beat in this country.

Recirculating is good, and geo thermal lines can help warm and cool initial air flow because the ground stays a constant temperature. Usually around 58 degrees which is warmer than the air in winter and cooler than the air in summer. So the geo thermal heating units can save money. If you add solar hot water and solar PV's to help the electrical part then you can have a very efficient home. Rammed earth homes are about 10 times more efficient than regular framed houses, they cost less in materials and can keep a home much cooler in the summer and a lot warmer in the winter. Plus they can be made into some very intricate are designs. Of course you would have to find a different kind of contractor for a rammed earth home, but the money you save makes it a great investment. And since the building materials cost less you can spend a little more on the thermal windows and make it even more efficient. You may want to add skylights that you can open in your roof plan, lets light in during the day to help heat in the winter and save money on the light bill year round. You can also open them up on the nicer days to make a great way for the heat to escape plus air out your house.
