MEMC Electronics (WFR). Based in the USA, they have quarter after quarter of strong earnings and growth. The stock trades very cheaply considering earnings are growing triple digit, but most of all, this company is the only major supplier of polysilicon, which is a required raw material for developing solar panels. With operating margins incredibly high and its monopolistic positioning in the solar space this is the best pick right now for the foreseeable future.

Jobs will continue to go overseas until the USA becomes more business friendly. Every company needs to make a profit to succeed, and the profits come from the reduced overhead in other countries such as China and India. There are two ways to fix this problem. The first would be to lower taxes on businesses, the second would be to increase the taxes on imports. A combination of the two previous things would work as well.

There are several; the biggest are in Europe.

The easiest way to find specific companies would be to look at listings/profiles for ETFs or mutual funds that specialize in alternative energy, and see where they are investing. The symbols for some of those are:

GEX, PHO, PBW, GAAEX.

You might want to look at wind companies as well; the turbine industry for windmills is booming.
