Solar Energy Photovoltaic Cells

Arnold Said:

Which of the following does not involve solar energy?

We Answered:

geothermal, thermal energy from the mantle.

Tommy Said:

How is energy from the sun used?

We Answered:

The sun makes the wind blow (warm air rises and the wind is air filling the gap left) so sun power drives windmills, wind turbines and sailing ships.

The sun makes the rain (seawater evaporates and is carried inland by the wind) so water wheels and hydro-electric stations are sun powered.

The wind makes the waves on the sea, so wave powered generators are sun powered.

But tides are driven by the moon so tidal barrage generators are moon powered.

Cheers, Alan.

PS just got back fromTibet where every body uses Solar cookers, a parabolic mirror of aluminium about 1.5 metres across with a little stand to put a kettle or saucepan, looks like a little radio telescope or radar dish.

Charlene Said:

Solar energy conversion help?

We Answered:

Photovoltaic Cells captures the heat of the light, which in turn will be used to boil water. Then the Steam that was produced will be used to rotate the generator (Of the Electricity)

Stella Said:

What are the positives and negitives of solar energy.?

We Answered:

As time passes and Climate Change becomes a scary reality and as the world runs out of economically available fossil fuels, the cons to solar energy will diminish to 0%.
Hellboy is correct but fossil fuels also have a 30 to 70% inefficiency as well with side effects (not only climate change but environmental health).
Mebekili there is a reason you are top in cats...you know nothing of science. Wind is solar, because wind is created by the SUN heating the earth unevenly.
