Photovoltaic Cells Modules

Minnie Said:

When we say Photovoltaic Module of "200Wp" is it different to saying "200W" ?

We Answered:

Watt-peak is not a measure of area but rather a measure of output power from a panel that is illuminated at 1000W/m^2 and held at a temperature of 25 degC.

It is the standardized measure by which various panels can be compared.

Under installed conditions, output power can be higher since illumination can exceed 1000W/m^2 in certain locations at midday.

So what it the watt vs. the watt-peak? If it is being used as the size of the panel, one would hope that it refers to the tested watt-peak value. Otherwise it could have other uses under different conditions that would have to be specified. Let's hope that panel manufacturers don't modify the watt definition the way consumer audio amplifiers are rated...

Here's a good summary of the watt-peak definition:

Herbert Said:

How much current could be produce by Photovoltaic Module: 9 in Parallel, 20 in series?

We Answered:

I am not really sure what your configuration is by your question but here is what I will tell you. First, you need to know the voltage and amperage each cell will output. When you connect them in series, multiply the voltage by the number of cells. When you connect them in parallel, multiply the amperage by the number of cells. When you are doing both, consider each parallel grouping as a single unit.

here is an example. I have 12 cells, each produces .5 amps at 1.5 volts and I am going to connect them in a 3 parallel connections of a series of 4 cells. First I multiply to find out how much 1 series of 4 cells will produce. 4x1.5=6 volts. The amperage does not change so it is still at .5 amps. Now I connect 3 of these in parallel. and multiply the amperage. 3x.5 is 1.5 so I am going to get 1.5 amps at 6 volts. To find power multiply volts by amps to get watts. 1.5x6=9 watts. I hope this is helpful.
